Who We Are

ECOBA DFW is a non-profit association of old boys of Edo College based in Texas. The Principal Office of the Association is located in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.

ECOBA DFW aims to continue its goal of providing assistance for our alma mater, Edo College. Through scholarship grants, building and infrastructure projects, teacher and staff support and recognition, and other educational upliftment programs, we promote the culture of Edo College, bringing real change to how academic pursuits are explored. This includes social gatherings every Saturday, inspections, term orders, and others. We build better relationships among old boys and staff and students of Edo College and promote networking among our members.

Through the leadership of the national committee of ECOBA, ECOBA DFW has taken on the task of rebuilding, protecting, and developing the institution’s physical, intellectual, moral, and social foundation.

Join us as we embark on this academic cause.

History of Edo College

Edo College, Benin City, established in February 1937, is the pioneer secondary school in the old Midwestern Region or Bendel State, and the numero uno school in terms of perception, which is largely a function of the academic excellence of the products of the school. It started as the Benin Middle School with forms I, II, and III. In April 1937, the school, with a total student enrolment of 76 pupils, moved from its temporary site at the old Government School, Benin City, to a permanent site, the present Idia College premises. In 1973, the school further moved from Idia College premises to its present site along Murtala Mohammed Way, Benin City.

With the Government take-over of schools in the state in 1973, the management of the College went from the direct control of the Ministry of Education to the Board of Education with particular reference to the appointment and deployment to staff to the school.

The specific aims and goals of the college have always been:

  1. (i) To provide the student of the college with the opportunity for education of high quality.
  2. (ii) To prepare them both for useful living within the society and for higher education elsewhere;
  3. (iii) To inculcate in them high moral and spiritual values in inter-personal and human relations;
  4. (iv) To promote and develop their emotional, physical, and psychological health;
  5. (v) To inculcate national consciousness in them.
  6. (vi) To help them to utilize their leisure well through teaching Nigerian culture, art, and languages as well as the world’s cultural heritage.

Edo College’s greatest strength is the quality of its products. The school produces well-grounded and rounded students. Edo College does not only turn out products that excelled academically but also in character. This is what made Edo College great and these attributes are reflected in its motto “knowledge and wisdom”.
